Dynasty Franchise File
Egbuka Matata
Three names in three years, elite draft pedigree, and back-to-back fourth-place finishes; the league's busiest trader still cannot crack the final.
Team Story
No franchise here has changed clothes more. TheBredeBunch opened in 2023 as Herbert the Perverts, became 1-800-TRADER in 2024, and settled on Egbuka Matata in 2025 after spending the 1.07 rookie pick on Emeka Egbuka. The startup draft was a war chest, Ja'Marr Chase at 1.02 plus Justin Herbert, Josh Jacobs and Terry McLaurin, and it still produced a 4-11 disaster and last place in the North Side.
The rebrand to 1-800-TRADER was honest advertising. The manager wheeled constantly, flipping Deebo Samuel for T.J. Hockenson, sending Michael Penix, Travis Etienne and a 2026 second to 2nd Hand Smoke for Mike Evans and Chuba Hubbard, and dealing J.J. McCarthy to Big Tex for Courtland Sutton. It worked enough to reach 8-7 and the 2024 winners bracket, where a 159.5-115.7 win over Puerto Rican Pounders set up a semifinal.
And there the ceiling appeared. Shartnado ended 2024 in the semis 172.9-127.5, and Bama Boy took the third-place game 153.6-127.3. 2025 was better on paper at 10-5, but the movie repeated: past The Prodigies 125.6-104.3, out to 2nd Hand Smoke 145.6-116.0 in the semi, then a 107.7-101.5 third-place loss to Shartnado. Two years, two fourth-place finishes, the same two rooms it cannot escape.
The North Side grudge is with 2nd Hand Smoke. Egbuka holds the regular-season edge 3-1, including that 119.0-118.7 survival in Week 3 of 2025, but Smoke returned the favor when it counted, bouncing Egbuka from the playoffs 145.6-116.0. Egbuka wins the arguments in the fall and loses the one in December.
The talent has never been the problem. Emeka Egbuka, Rome Odunze at 1.02 in 2024 and the old Chase pedigree give this roster as much name value as anyone, but the all-in trading has thinned the future, including the 2026 second already shipped to Smoke. The 10-5 in 2025 even outran its own scoreboard, allowing more points than it scored. Until this team wins a semifinal, the new name is just the old story with better branding.
